 Asparagus: 

Markets are getting tighter as container delays are causing a supply shortage. Quality has been good. 

Broccoli: 

Markets are coming off and supplies have improved across all regions. There is an AOG increase on Broccoli VA items. Quality is good. 

Brussel Sprouts: Alert 

The sprout supplies remain extremely tight, with elevated pricing as demand continues to outpace supply. Production out of Oxnard is nearly complete. Quality issues persist, including elongated cores and stems, light insect damage, and occasional internal discoloration. Quality and sizing are fair. 

Cabbage: 

  • Green Cartons: Markets are softening. Quality is good. 
  • Red Cartons: Markets are softening. Quality is good. 
  • Bagged Cabbage: Market is softening. Quality is good. 

Carrots: 

  • Cello markets are steady. Quality is good. 
  • Loose Mexican product remains tight. Canadian product should be available in the next few weeks. Quality has been good. 
  • Value-add Snack Carrots are steady. Quality is good. 

Cauliflower: 

Markets are at the bottom with strong supplies. Quality is good. 

Celery: 

Markets are at the bottom. Supplies and Quality are good. 

Citrus: 

  • Orange: Valencia’s are the main variety, currently peaking on 113ct and 138ct as the season begins, with sizes expected to increase over time. Gas treatments are running about 48 hours to enhance color. Brix levels are 12-13, and the fruit is eating very well. Quality is good. 
  • Lemon: Markets remain strong across the board. District 1 (San Joaquin Valley) has finished, with District 2 (Ventura County/Oxnard) now the primary growing region. Sizes 165ct and smaller are extremely limited. Choice grade will dominate this crop, with less Fancy grade available due to growing conditions. Offshore fruit arrivals have been delayed, while Mexico is expected to ramp up production next week. Quality is fair to good. 
  • Limes: markets remain steady. Weather events are continuing to cause some minor quality issues to emerge. 

Cucumbers: 

  • Cucumber market is steady. Quality has been good on inbound. 
  • Euro Cucumbers markets are slightly down out of Canada. Quality is good. 

Eggplant: 

Market is relatively steady. quality has been good. 

Grapes: 

Domestic grapes are in full swing from Bakersfield to Fresno, with good quality overall. Early varieties are running small in size, but expect a split market as larger varieties come online next week. Quality is good. 

Herbs: 

  • Basil: Quality is fair. 

Leaf Lettuce: 

  • Romaine markets are coming off. Slight fringe and tip burn have been reported. There is an AOG increase on all Romaine VA items. Quality is good. 
  • Romaine Heart markets are coming off. Slight fringe and tip burn have been reported. There is an AOG increase on all Romaine VA items. Quality is good. 
  • Green Leaf markets are coming off. Slight fringe and tip burn have been reported. Quality is good. 
  • Red Leaf markets are coming off. Slight fringe and tip burn have been reported. Quality is good. 

Lettuce Iceberg: 

Lettuce markets started to coming off this week until today. Multiple shippers came out sold out for the end of this week. Production remains strong throughout both Northern and Southern California, with Mexico also increasing output. Overall quality is good, with weights ranging from 39 to 43 pounds across regions. Minor reports of misshapen heads have been noted but remain minimal. There is an AOG increase on all Lettuce VA items. Quality is fair to good. 

Lettuce Tender Leaf: 

Arcadian, Spring Mix, Spinach, Cilantro, Arugula, and Italian Parsley. Markets are steady. Minor discoloration and minimal tip burn have been reported. Quality is good. 

Melons: 

  • Cantaloupes: Market is steady. The domestic cantaloupe market is strong on the West Coast, as heavy rains in regional growing areas have shifted demand westward. Warm weather is driving excellent quality, with fruit peaking on 9s and 12s and Brix levels ranging from 13–16. Jumbos and smaller sizes are becoming limited. Quality is good. 
  • Honeydew: Market is steady. The domestic honeydew market is strong on the West Coast, with heavy rains in regional growing areas shifting demand west. Warm weather is producing high-quality fruit, peaking on 5s. Nogales melons are now finished for the season. Quality is good. 

Onions: 

The onion market is experiencing an upward trend, driven by supply gaps in California and recent rainfall in New Mexico. Quality has been fair to good. 

Peppers: ALERT 

  • Green bell market is softening some but is still stronger than average overall. Quality on inbound has been good. 
  • Red Pepper markets continue to go up. Red bell peppers are particularly limited as California transitions to northern growing areas, while Mexican and Canadian crossings remain light. Quality is good. 

Pineapples: 

Market is steady. Quality has been good. 

Potatoes: 

Quality and sizing remain consistent with recent packs. Larger size cartons are tightening, and we are seeing upward pressure on pricing. 

Strawberries & Bush Berries: Alert 

  • Strawberry markets are coming off. Unexpected harvest increases in Salinas and Watsonville have saturated the market. New crop fruit from Santa Maria has just begun, with southern volumes set to rise in the coming weeks. Quality is good. 
  • Raspberry markets are steady. Steady supplies continue from Mexico, while harvests remain light on the Central California Coast. Quality is good. 
  • Blueberry markets are steady. Quality is good. 
  • Blackberry markets are steady, but supplies are limited. Product remains very tight due to cooler temperatures and reduced Mexican crossings, resulting in a market where demand continues to exceed supply. Quality is fair to good. 

Squash: 

  • Green markets are soft but steady with many areas harvesting in the northeast. Quality is good. 
  • Yellow markets are soft but steady with many areas harvesting in the northeast. Quality is good. 

Tomatoes: 

Eastern production is ramping up, with harvests in TN and VA and more supply expected next week. CA supply is good but seeing some heat related quality issues. Mexico remains steady. 

  • Round tomato markets are up. Quality is good. 
  • Roma tomato markets are steady. Quality is good. 
  • Grape tomato markets are coming off. Quality is good. 
  • Cherry tomato markets are up. Quality is good. 

Yams: Alert 

Markets are active. Jumbo yams are in short supply; this situation is unlikely to ease until we reach the new crop harvest this fall. Orders moving forward will have a high probability of being prorated. Quality is good.
