Citrus: Alert
- Orange: The Navel season is past its peak and is expected to conclude by June. Small fruit will remain limited for the remainder of the season. Suppliers are closely monitoring remaining Navel field projections to determine the best strategy for fulfilling contracts. The aim is to maintain coverage while delaying the start of the Valencia season to ensure adequate supply through the fall. Expect the Valencia season to ramp up at the beginning of June. Quality is good.
- Lemon: Markets continue to remain strong. Supplies of 140-count and smaller fruit are tight, with small fruit expected to stay snug until District 2 increases volume around
- June. District 1 (San Joaquin Valley) is nearing the end of its season, while District 2 (Ventura County/Oxnard) is ramping up production week by week. Quality is good.
- Limes: Poor weather in Mexico is beginning to cause harvest delays, which will reduce availability and increase oil spots/skin breakdown on inbounds. This will have to be graded out, which will further reduce availability. For now, the market is slightly down to steady, but if demand continues to remain strong or increase, we could see pricing inch back up. Long term, the early season drought is starting to show its effect on the upcoming crop now as well as the next crop is beginning to see reduced bloom production and some fruit is starting to prematurely fall off the trees. This all points to a higher than usual summer lime market with smaller than normal production.
