Market Outlook

 

Lettuce: 

The lettuce market remains high and supplies are very short. We are seeing mostly good quality and weights are improving. Shippers holding to averages and pro-rating both commodity and processed.

Leaf: 

Romaine and romaine heart markets are strong with short supplies. Costs will be elevated. Quality has been mostly good on Romaine. Green leaf remains high along with red leaf. Quality has been good overall. Shippers holding to averages and pro-rating.

Broccoli:

Shippers seem to be moving into better supplies and costs are starting to ease. Quality has been mostly good on inbound.

Cauliflower:

The cauliflower market is strong, but starting to ease a bit. Quality has been good overall.

Carrots:

The carrot market is steady for next week. We have Georgia product in house. Quality and sizing has been good.

Celery:

The celery market is active and costs are high again for next week. We are seeing good quality on inbound.

Strawberries: 

Market is about steady and quality has been very good on California product this week.

Potatoes:

The Idaho potato market is up again for next week, especially on the larger sizes. Quality remains good.

Onions:

The onion market has is up for next week and should remain on the strong side for several weeks. California will begin harvest with light volume.

Citrus:

The California lemon market is steady, but high overall. Small lemons (165’s and 200’s) remain in very short supply and cost is high. We are seeing very nice quality. Navel orange availability is fair and the market is up slightly again.  The Lime market is steady to lower for next week. We are seeing good quality on inbound.

Cucumbers:

The cucumber market is steady for next week. Quality has been very nice.

Peppers:

The green pepper market is steady, but elevated for next week. Costs should start to ease off towards the end of next week. Quality and sizing is good.

Tomatoes:

The round tomato market is just a bit lower for next week. Overall, supplies and demand remain light. We are seeing excellent quality. Grape and cherry tomatoes are steady. Both are showing good quality. The Roma market is about steady with lighter supplies from Mexico and Florida. We are seeing excellent quality across all tomato lines.

 

 

Recipe of the Week

Salty Dog

Ingredients

Coarse kosher salt

Ice cubes

2 parts vodka (or gin)

3 parts freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

Slices of grapefruit for garnish

Directions

Pour kosher salt onto a small flat plate, wet the rims of the glasses and dip the rim in the plate of salt spinning to coat.

Fill glasses with ice cubes

Pour 2 parts vodka and 3 parts grapefruit juice over the ice, stir gently to combine and serve
