 Lettuce: Alert 

Lettuce markets are steady, but still active. Anthracnose has been an issue for lettuce growers in Salinas Valley. Currently, it is unclear the extent of the damage, but multiple shippers are experiencing yield and quality problems. There is an AOG increase on all Lettuce Value-add products. Quality is fair. 

Leaf: Alert 

Romaine markets are up and very active. Many suppliers are experiencing quality issues caused by anthracnose, which has lowered yields throughout Salinas Valley. Expect to see black/brown spotting and pink discoloration. There is an AOG increase on all Romaine Value-added products. Quality is fair. 

Romaine Heart markets are up and very active. Many suppliers are experiencing quality issues caused by anthracnose, which has lowered yields throughout Salinas Valley. Expect to see black/brown spotting and pink discoloration. Quality is fair. 

Green and Red Leaf markets are steady with moderate supplies. Many suppliers are experiencing quality issues caused by anthracnose, which has lowered yields throughout Salinas Valley. Expect to see black/brown spotting and pink discoloration. Quality is fair. 

Lettuce Tender Leaf: 

Arcadian, Arugula, Cilantro, Parsley, Spinach and Spring Mix markets are steady. Due to recent rain in Salinas, there will be some yellowing. Quality is fair to good. 

Broccoli: 

Markets are coming off. Broccoli supplies and quality are good. 

Cauliflower: Alert 

Markets are very active with short supplies. Cooler weather slowed growth, causing fields to lag behind. Quality is fair to good. Primo Weekly Market Update 4/25/24 

Carrots: 

Cello markets are steady out West and Georgia. Quality is good. 

Loose market is steady to up slightly on Mexican crossings, and about steady in Georgia. Quality is good. 

Value-add Snack Carrots are steady. Quality is good. 

Celery: 

Despite a stronger market, supplies remain steady. There is an AOG increase on all Celery Value-add products. Quality is good. 

Strawberries & Bush Berries: 

Strawberry markets have hit bottom. Quality is good. 

Raspberry markets are steady. Quality is good. 

Blueberries markets are lower from last week. Florida has ramped up volume and Georgia has also started. Quality is good. 

Blackberries markets have slightly come down. Quality is good. 

Pineapples: 

Market remains very strong with limited arrivals from South America. Quality has been good on recent arrivals. 

Potatoes: 

The Potato market is at the bottom. 40cts and 50cts are tight with pricing firming up. Quality has been fair. 

Onions: 

The onion market is very strong. Pricing is up on the reds and expected to stay up for the next few weeks. Overall quality has been fair. Red Jumbo onions are very tight. Yellow Jumbo onions are starting to tighten up. Primo Weekly Market Update 4/25/24 

Cucumbers: 

Cucumber The market is about steady to slightly lower on selects, and a few dollars higher on supers in Florida. Nicer cucumbers for retail are at a premium. Mexico is steady/ higher with light volume. Quality has good on inbound. 

Euro Cucumbers markets continue to trade near the bottom with some reports of only fair quality. Great quality cucumbers continue to bring a few dollars more. 

Squash: 

The Green squash market is steady, and remains a pretty good value. We are seeing good quality in both Florida and Mexico. Yellow supplies are much lighter and that market is much stronger. We are seeing good quality. 

Eggplant: 

Quality Eggplant supply is steady in both Florida and Mexico. Markets are a little softer. Quality is much improved. 

Peppers: 

Green bells market is steady to a bit lower with supplies in Florida in pretty good shape overall. Supplies on larger pepper are still bringing a premium. Quality on inbound has been good overall. 

Red Pepper markets hit bottom and are now rebounding. Quality has been sharp on recent inbounds. 

Chile Pepper Jalapeno peppers are very short in both Florida and Mexico. Costs are elevated. 

Herbs: 

Basil: quality is fair to good. 

Citrus: 

Orange markets are steady, but very tight. There is a peak in fruit production for 72ct and larger; 88/113/138ct are extremely scarce and will remain so until the end of the navel season. Due to low fruit set and rain events, fruit will continue to grow in size as the season progresses. Brix is between 12 and 14. Currently, there is no gassing. Quality is good. 

Primo Weekly Market Update 4/25/24 

Lemon markets are steady on sizes 115ct and larger. Markets on sizes 140ct and smaller are up and extremely tight. Quality is good. 

Lime – As we get close to starting the Mexico summer crop here in a couple weeks, sizing remains tight on 110-175, with most of the current supplies being heavy on the 250-200ct sizes. Overall quality remains good with limited issues being seen on most fruit. Looks for larger sized fruit to remain higher priced until the crop begins to size up more. Volumes should begin to increase around mid-May as the summer crop gets going, which should begin to push pricing back down. 

Grapes: 

Markets are easing just a little. Imported grapes remain tight through the end of the Chilean deal in early May. Mexico is expected to start in mid-May, according to shippers. Quality is good. 

Tomatoes: 

The market on Rounds is active and product is in short supply. Romas out of Mexico are stronger. Good quality out of both Florida and Mexico. Grape tomatoes are steady at the lower end and a good value. Cherry tomatoes are steady to up slightly. 

Cabbage: 

Green Cartons: Markets are steady to a little higher. Quality has been sharp on product out of Texas and Florida 

Red Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality is good. 

Bagged Cabbage: Supplies are tightening out of Canada and costs continue moving up reflecting the short supply. Quality is good.
