Strawberries & Bush Berries:

Strawberry markets are very active. We are currently in a demand-exceeds-supply situation. McAllen, TX, is experiencing a shortage of supplies due to labor and cold weather. In Oxnard, cold temperatures combined with rain have slowed production. Florida is experiencing very sporadic production due to rain and cold weather. The very low yields are expected to continue into late next week, according to growers. It is expected that supplies will be light through January. Quality is fair.

Raspberry markets are active. Over the next 3 weeks, Mexican transfers from Baja should increase slightly. Currently, product is tight as shippers wait for delayed crossings from Central Mexico to reach distribution centers. Cold weather and labor issues are causing lighter numbers to cross into the U.S. Quality is fair to good.

Blueberries markets are steady with good supplies. Quality is good.

Blackberries markets are active. There is a shortage of this item due to very cold temperatures and labor shortages. Barring any major weather events, shippers expect better availability towards the end of January. Quality is fair.

Potatoes:

The Potato market is Stable. 40cts, 50cts, 60cts, and 70cts are becoming tight. Quality has been good.

Onions:

The onion market is very strong. Mexican and Canadian product is coming up short. Pricing is up and expected to stay up. Overall quality is good. White Jumbo onions are very tight.

Cucumbers:

Cucumber market is steady. Quality is good.

Euro cucumbers markets are active due to recent weather conditions in FL and Mex. Quality is good.

Peppers:

Green bells market is steady. Quality is good.

Red Pepper markets are active due to recent weather conditions. Quality is fair to good.

Herbs:

Basil: We are still seeing quality issues as weather in the growing regions continues to create poor growing conditions. Overall, quality is fair to good.

Citrus:

Orange markets are steady, but there are light supplies. Fruit is currently peaking at 72ct and larger; 88/113/138ct are very tight and will remain this way through the navel season. Demand for small fruit is increasing as schools come back in play from winter break. Quality is good.

Lemon markets are steady. Currently, all three districts are shipping, with an overall peak size of 140/165ct. Mexico product has been steady with good quality. Quality is good.

Lime Supplies have decreased in the marketplace due to the holidays. Expect lighter supplies for most of this week until growers are able to get more harvested. We are mostly into the new crop with the exception of large (110/150ct) sized fruit still being old crop for now. Outside of the temperatures being cooler, the weather in Mexico has been pretty favorable. This is the time of year where pricing historically increases due to lower overall volume of the crop. Overall quality has been good.

Grapes:

Due to fewer arrivals during the holidays, the import grape markets are up. Quality is good.

Tomatoes:

The supply of all varieties is starting to trickle into Nogales. Despite rain in Florida, prices remain high on both coasts, with good quality fruit commanding higher prices. The grape market has peaked and will be coming off slowly over the next few weeks.

Cabbage:

Green Cartons: Markets are tightening up. Quality is good.

Red Cartons: Markets are tightening up. Quality is good.

Bagged Cabbage: Markets are tightening up. Quality is good.
