 Asparagus: 

Markets are getting tighter as container delays continue to cause a supply shortage. Quality is good. 

Broccoli: 

Markets continue to come off and supplies remain strong across all regions. Quality is good. 

Brussel Sprouts: Alert 

Sprout supplies remain extremely tight, with elevated pricing as demand continues to exceed supply. Production in Salinas is gradually increasing but remains behind schedule. Quality issues persist, including elongated cores and stems, light insect damage, and occasional internal discoloration. Quality and sizing are fair. 

Cabbage: 

  • Green Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality is good. 
  • Red Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality is good. 
  • Bagged Cabbage: Market is steady. Quality is good. 

Carrots: 

  • Cello markets are steady. Quality is good. 
  • Loose Mexican product remains tight. Canadian product is becoming available. Quality has been good. 
  • Value-add Snack Carrots are steady. Quality is good. 

Cauliflower: 

Markets are at the bottom. Supplies and Quality are good. 

Celery: 

Markets are at the bottom. Supplies and Quality are good. 

Citrus: 

  • Orange: Val’s are currently peaking on 113ct and 88ct, with sizes expected to increase as the season progresses. Gas times of about 24 hours are being used to enhance color. Brix levels are around 13, and the fruit is eating very well. Quality is good. 
  • Lemon: CA markets remain strong, with District 2 (Ventura/Oxnard) as the only active growing region. Sizes 165ct and smaller are very limited. Choice grade dominates, while Fancy grade is reduced due to growing conditions. Quality issues like softness, early decay, and scarring are common. Import markets are very tight due to delays at the ports. Quality is good. 
  • Limes: markets are tightening. Weather events are continuing to causing quality issues to emerge. 

Cucumbers: 

  • Cucumber market is steady. Quality has been good on inbound. 
  • Euro Cucumbers markets are steady, but supplies remain limited. Quality is good. 

Eggplant: 

Market is relatively steady. quality has been good. 

Grapes: 

Domestic grapes are in full swing from Bakersfield to Fresno, with good quality overall. Early varieties are running small in size, but expect a split market as larger varieties come online next week. Quality is good. 

Herbs: 

  • Basil: Quality is fair. 

Leaf Lettuce: 

  • Romaine markets continue to slightly come off. Slight fringe and tip burn have been reported. Quality is good. 
  • Romaine Heart markets are slightly up. Slight fringe and tip burn have been reported. Quality is good. 
  • Green Leaf markets are steady. Slight fringe and tip burn have been reported. Quality is good. 
  • Red Leaf markets are steady. Slight fringe and tip burn have been reported. Quality is good. 

Lettuce Iceberg: 

Lettuce markets are up. Demand continues to exceed supply across Salinas, Santa Maria, and Oxnard. Lighter weights and misshapen heads are ongoing quality concerns. There is an AOG increase on all Lettuce VA items. Quality is fair to good. 

Lettuce Tender Leaf: 

Arcadian, Spring Mix, Spinach, Cilantro, Arugula, and Italian Parsley. Markets are steady. Minor discoloration and minimal tip burn have been reported. Quality is good. 

Melons: 

  • Cantaloupes: Markets have slightly come off. The domestic cantaloupe market is strong on the West Coast, as heavy rains in regional growing areas have shifted demand westward. Warm weather is driving excellent quality, with fruit peaking on 9s and 12s and Brix levels ranging from 13–16. Jumbos and smaller sizes are becoming limited. Quality is good. 
  • Honeydew: Market have slightly come off. The domestic honeydew market is strong on the West Coast, with heavy rains in regional growing areas shifting demand west. Warm weather is producing high-quality fruit, peaking on 5s. Nogales melons are now finished for the season. Quality is good. 

Onions: 

The onion market is experiencing an upward trend, driven by supply gaps in California and recent rainfall in New Mexico. Quality has been fair to good. 

Peppers: ALERT 

  • Green bell market is trending downward but availability on large, medium, and suntans is still prevalent. Quality on inbound has been good. 
  • Red Pepper markets are steady, but supplies remain tight. Quality is fair to good. 

Pineapples: 

Market is strengthening. Quality has been good. 

Potatoes: 

Quality and sizing remain consistent with recent packs. Larger size cartons are tightening, and we are seeing upward pressure on pricing. 

Strawberries & Bush Berries: Alert 

  • Strawberry markets are steady. Some shippers are carrying heavy volumes of fruit amid light demand, keeping the market temporarily soft. Volume deals are being offered, preventing pricing from firming up for those with moderate inventories. New crop fruit from Santa Maria is just starting to enter the market, with increased production expected by mid-August. Oxnard production is set to begin shortly after. Quality is fair to good. 
  • Raspberry markets are steady. Steady supplies continue from Mexico, while harvests remain light on the Central California Coast. Quality is good. 
  • Blueberry markets are steady. Current production areas include the Pacific Northwest (British Columbia, Oregon, and Washington), as well as Mexico, California, North Carolina, and New Jersey. Transferred fruit is also available in Florida. Quality is good. 
  • Blackberry markets are up and sold out. Demand continues to exceed supply on this item. California production is expected to increase slightly next week as warmer weather sets in. For now, open market product remains scarce, with shippers prioritizing contract commitments. Quality is fair. 

Squash: 

  • Green markets are soft but steady with many areas harvesting in the northeast. Quality is good. 
  • Yellow markets are soft but steady with many areas harvesting in the northeast. Quality is good. 

Tomatoes: 

Roma supply is stable across regions, with quality production from Mexico and California. Eastern areas are ramping up but remain below peak due to weather. Western supply is consistent with improving sizing and solid quality. Grape tomato supply is increasing on both coasts, with Eastern production improving and strong quality. Steady supply continues from Baja and Central Mexico. 

  • Round tomato markets are slightly down. Quality is good. 
  • Roma tomato markets are coming off. Quality is good. 
  • Grape tomato markets are slightly down. Quality is good. 
  • Cherry tomato markets slightly down. Quality is good. 

Yams: Alert 

Markets are active. Jumbo yams are in short supply; this situation is unlikely to ease until we reach the new crop harvest this fall. Orders moving forward will have a high probability of being prorated. Quality is good.
