Asparagus:
Mexico is meeting demand, though markets are slow and quality is mixed.
Berries: Alert
- Blackberry markets are coming off. Fruit supplies remain strong from both Baja and CMEX. Quality is good
- Blueberries Peruvian product continues to wind down and Mexican product is becoming more available. Market is steady.
- Raspberry markets are slightly up. Fruit supplies remain strong from both Baja and CMEX. Quality is good.
- Strawberry markets are sold out. Strawberries remain in light supply across all districts. California is gradually recovering from recent weather, while Central Mexico is working to ramp up but is facing production challenges from cold temperatures and transportation delays caused by road blockages. Florida has started production, and volumes should increase over the next few weeks. Baja is expected to begin in another week or two, depending on weather. Overall demand is likely to ease with the upcoming holiday. Quality is fair. Green Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality is good.
- Red Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality is good.
- Bagged Cabbage: Markets are steady. Quality is good.
Shippers cancelled all orders this week due to rain and availability.
Broccoli:
Broccoli markets are up. Broccoli supplies are slightly limited as the Salinas season winds down and recent rains impact harvests. There is an AOG trigger on all value-added Broccoli items. Quality is fair to good.
Brussel Sprouts: Alert
Markets are up and sold out. Salinas Valley and Oxnard regions are dealing with insect pressure, some decay, and smaller-sized produce. There is an AOG trigger on all value-added Brussel Sprout items. Quality is fair.
Cabbage:
Carrots:
- Cello markets are mostly steady. Quality is good.
- Loose Markets are steady. Quality has been good.
- Value-add Snack Carrots are steady. Quality is good.
Cauliflower:
Markets are coming off. Salinas is winding down and Yuma has started. There is an AOG trigger on all value-added Cauliflower items. Quality is fair to good.
Celery:
The market is firm, with moderate to light supplies expected from Southern California for the rest of the week. Quality is generally good, with only slight seeder issues reported. There is an AOG trigger on all value-added Celery items.
Citrus:
- Lemon: Relief is starting in the market as District 1 (San Joaquin) begins light harvesting. Current volumes are limited as fruit needs a few days to color, similar to navels. Cooler nights in the coming weeks should help ramp up production. District 3 (CA Desert/AZ) remains the main growing region, though volumes are expected to decline over the next few weeks. Sizes 140ct and smaller continue to be extremely limited. Mexico is also running with good volumes.
- Limes: The lime market is tightening with lower volumes, and active markets are expected through early 2026 due to holiday demand. Large sizes are peaking now, while smaller sizes will peak by mid-December with the new crop. Some lots may show occasional styler.
- Orange: Navels are in full swing as the main variety. Markets are stabilizing following heavy rain in the Central Valley. Peak sizing is shifting toward 72ct, with smaller sizes tightening closer to December and January. Current gas times are around 2 days, with brix at approximately 12. Colder nights are helping to reduce gassing times. Quality is good.
Cucumbers:
- Cucumber Florida growers continue to harvest with steady production and adequate supply. Offshore Honduran cucumbers are expected in December, as Florida typically sees lower winter acreage
- Cello Cucumbers markets are steady. Quality is good.
Eggplant:
Market is steady as volumes ramp in southern Florida. Quality is good.
Grapes:
The grape market is expected to strengthen through the month. Domestic green grapes are tightening faster than reds, with some growers finished for the season. Greens from storage should last through the final week of November, while reds are expected into mid-December. Early Peruvian imports have started arriving on the East Coast, with volumes building on both coasts by late November into early December. Quality is good.
Green Onions: Alert
Markets are up and sold out. Green onion supplies are tightening due to recent rains reducing yields. Expect the market to rise heading into next week. Quality is fair to good.
Herbs: Alert
- Basil: Quality is fair.
Lettuce Iceberg:
Lettuce markets are up. Overall demand exceeds supplies. Current production is in Huron, Yuma, and Salinas, with minimal output from Southern California. Suppliers continue to face challenges with light weights, rib discoloration, and misshapen heads, with weights ranging from 34–39 pounds depending on shipper and region. Quality is fair to good.
Lettuce Leaf:
- Romaine markets are steady. Recent poor weather in Salinas and last week’s rain in Yuma have limited availability, with Yuma production running moderate to light. Common defects include discoloration, brown butts, and misshapen heads, with carton weights ranging from 35–41 pounds. There is an AOG trigger on all value-added Romaine items. Quality is fair to good.
- Romaine Heart markets are coming off. Quality issues reported include discoloration and tip or fringe burn. Quality is fair to good.
- Green Leaf markets are steady. Quality issues reported include discoloration and tip or fringe burn. There is an AOG trigger on all value-added Green Leaf items. Quality is fair to good.
- Red Leaf markets are steady. Quality issues reported include discoloration and tip or fringe burn. Quality is fair to good.
Lettuce Tender Leaf: Alert
Arcadian, Spring Mix, Spinach, Cilantro, Arugula, and Italian Parsley. Tender leaf supplies are tightening due to lower yields caused by insects and recent hail. Quality is fair.
Melons:
- Cantaloupes: The Westside deal has concluded. We could see some elevated pricing due to vessel delays and lower yields crossing the border. Mexican melons are available, but border delays are limiting new supplies. Offshore melons are entering the market this week, mainly in 9s, with sizing expected to remain a challenge through the rest of the month. Quality is fair to good.
- Honeydews: Honeydews are available from Mexican sources. Offshore supplies are light this week but expected to improve. Fields are still producing primarily sizes 4, 5, and 6. Quality is good with some minor scarring.
Onions:
Overall demand remains strong, with steady supplies of all three colors shipping from ID, OR, and WA. Prices are holding firm on yellows and reds, while the market for whites is trending upward. Quality is good.
Peppers:
- Green Pepper market is steady. Quality on inbound has been good.
- Red Pepper markets are up. Quality is good.
Pineapples:
Markets are steady. Quality has been good.
Potatoes:
Harvest is complete, and supplies are now coming out of storage. The quality remains good, with a well-balanced range of sizes available. Color potatoes are coming from CA, ID, MN, WA, and WI. Quality is good.
Squash:
Market is steady on both green and yellow squash
Tomatoes:
- Round tomato markets are coming off. Quality is good.
- Roma tomato markets are coming off. Quality is good.
- Grape tomato markets are coming off. Quality is good.
- Cherry tomato markets are coming off. Quality is good.
Yams: Alert
Markets are active. Jumbo yams are in short supply. Orders moving forward will have a high probability of being prorated. Quality is good.
