August 7th, 2026 Market Report

Apples:

• Local Apples: Have a wide spread of packs and variety’s available as we head into the final month of summer. Growers are easing into harvest of a crop affected by the April freeze.
• Western Apples: The apple market is expected to remain relatively stable over the coming weeks. Supplies of Golden Delicious apples continue to tighten, pushing prices higher as shippers near the end of the season. Gala and Granny Smith supplies remain sufficient to meet current demand. Shipments of the new Gala crop are expected to begin soon. Meanwhile, Fuji supplies remain below typical seasonal levels, and prices may continue to strengthen as demand increases with the start of the school year.

Asparagus: Alert

Markets remain strong, with supplies extremely tight due to limited availability from Baja, declining quality in Central Mexico, and below-average production in Peru. Hot weather and unfavorable growing conditions have further impacted both yields and product quality. Market conditions are expected to remain tight through the Thanksgiving season. Overall quality is currently rated as fair.

Berries:

• Blackberry Markets are steady. Availability is improving from Central Mexico, California, and Oregon. Quality is improving, but some red cell is still showing on inbound. Quality is fair to good.
• Blueberry Markets are steady. Production in Oregon and Washington has increased, while volume in Michigan continues to pick up, contributing to downward pressure on the markets.  New Jersey has steady supplies.  Quality is good.
• Raspberry markets are coming off. Supplies continue to improve from Baja, while California production is gradually increasing. Quality is good.
• Strawberry markets are up. A small growing gap has emerged following heavy diversion to processors last week, while cooler weather has further curtailed overall yields. Santa Maria remains about a week away from meaningful volume. Quality is fair to good.

Broccoli:

Markets are up. Broccoli supplies are starting to tighten as recent fields finish early, creating a gap before younger acreage matures. Quality is fair to good.  

Brussel Sprouts:

Markets are steady. Quality is good.

Cabbage:

• Green Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality is good.
• Red Cartons: Markets are steady. Quality is good.
• Bagged Cabbage: Markets are steady.  Quality is good.

Carrots:

• Cello markets are coming off. Quality is good.
• Loose Markets continue to come off. Quality is good.
• Value-add Carrots markets are steady. Quality is good.

Cauliflower:

Markets are up. Quality is fair to good.

Celery:

Markets are coming down. Shippers are currently managing lygus insect pressure, which is impacting yields across multiple growers. There is an AOG trigger on all Value-added Celery. Quality is fair to good.

Citrus:

• Lemon: Markets are steady. District Two (Ventura County/Oxnard region) is in full production and supplying the majority of fruit. Offshore Import lemons have started with decent supplies. Quality is good.
• Limes: Recent heat and humidity in Mexico are impacting fruit quality causing more instances of stylar, oil spots, and skin breakdown. Shippers are seeing less fruit grading to US#1 standards which will cause a rise in markets.
• Orange: Markets are steady. California Valencia oranges are heavily weighted toward larger sizes, with 56ct and 72ct fruit making up the majority of production. Small sizes (113ct and 138ct) remain extremely limited and are expected to stay tight through the season. Import Chilian and South African fruit has started. We will see 105ct 15kg fruit as a sub for 113ct in the mix. Quality is good.

Cucumbers:

• Cucumbers Markets continue to trend downward as regional production in the East improves. While overall supplies are increasing, weather-related quality concerns persist in New Jersey. Market conditions are expected to remain favorable as additional regional production becomes available.
• Cello Cucumber Markets are increasing. Quality is good.

Eggplant:

Markets are steady. East coast production is increasing, despite a slower than normal start. Overall quality remains good.

Grapes:

Markets are coming off. The California grape season continues with strong availability. Summer varieties including Krissy and Timpson are hitting full production, with most shippers peaking on Large and Extra-Large sizes across both red and green seedless. Quality is good.

Green Onions:

Markets are steady. Quality is good.

Herbs:

• Basil: Quality is fair.

Lettuce Iceberg:

Markets are steady. Production remains strong across both northern and southern regions.Weights are averaging 40-45 pounds with good color and texture, and slight misshapen heads are being reported. Quality is good.  

Lettuce Leaf:

• Romaine markets are steady. Minimal fringe and tip burn being reported. Quality is good.  
• Romaine Heart markets are steady. Minimal fringe and tip burn being reported. Quality is good.
• Green Leaf markets are steady. Minimal fringe and tip burn being reported. Quality is good.  
• Red Leaf markets are steady. Minimal fringe and tip burn being reported. Quality is good.  

Lettuce Tender Leaf:

Arcadian, Arugula, Cilantro, Parsley, Spring Mix, and Spinach. Tender leaf items are steady. Quality is good.

Melons:

• Cantaloupes: Market are coming off. Domestic cantaloupes are transitioning from Central California into new fields in the Westside region. Quality is good.
• Honeydews: Markets are coming off. Domestic honeydews are transitioning from Central California into new fields in the Westside region. Quality is good.

Onions: Alert

• Red Onion: The market remains exceptionally tight due to a planting gap that has significantly limited available supplies. Production has begun in the Pacific Northwest;however, market conditions are expected to remain firm until supply levels improve. Transportation availability continues to play a significant role in the market, with freight costs remaining a key driver of pricing. Despite these challenges, overall product quality remains strong across all growing regions.
• Yellow: The market remains exceptionally tight due to a planting gap that has significantly limited available supplies. Production has begun in the Pacific Northwest; however,market conditions are expected to remain firm until supply levels improve. Transportation availability continues to play a significant role in the market, with freight costs remaining a key driver of pricing. Despite these challenges, overall product quality remains strong across all growing regions.

Peppers:

• Green Pepper: The market continues to ease as the Carolinas and New Jersey maintain strong production, with FOB prices expected to trend lower. Although high temperatures and heavy rainfall in the East may impact supply and quality into early August, increasing production from the Midwest and Northeast is expected to help offset any regional shortages and support overall market availability.
• Red Pepper markets are increasing. Quality is good.

Pineapples:

Markets are steady. Quality is good.

Potatoes: Alert

Markets are trending upward as pricing continues to increase on count cartons. As the crop nears its end, supplies of #1 cartons are becoming more limited, resulting in higher FOB pricing. Larger-size potatoes are also tightening in availability. New crop potatoes are expected to start shipping the week of August 10th. Transportation costs continue to contribute to overall market strength. Quality is fair to good.

Squash:

Markets are up. yellow squash is becoming a bit tight keeping pricing at a premium. Overall quality remains good

Tomatoes:

Tomato supplies remain steady as weather-related quality issues clear up with expanding harvests in Tennessee and the region. California and Baja continue to deliver strong, reliable volume, while Virginia leads grape tomato production with solid quality. Production out of Central Mexico and Baja is expected to rise in the coming weeks, further boosting market availability.  Canada production has started in a light way as well.

• Round tomato markets have come down. Quality fair to good.
• Roma tomato markets have come down. Quality is good.
• Grape tomato markets have come down. Quality is good.
• Cherry tomato markets have come down. Quality is good.

Yams: Alert

Markets are active.  Jumbo yams are in short supply. Quality is good.
